Biography
Dr. Olinga Daniel is a dedicated emergency medicine physician, educator, and researcher with a passion for advancing emergency care and toxicology in Uganda. Currently serving as the Acting Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Dr. Olinga plays a pivotal role in training the next generation of emergency medicine professionals.
With a background in emergency medicine and experience in frontline clinical practice, Dr. Olinga has been at the forefront of responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, Emergencies from non-communicable disease and Trauma . His work has highlighted the critical need for preparedness in global health security, particularly in resource-limited settings.
Education and Training
Dr. Olinga holds a Master’s degree in Emergency Medicine from Mbarara University, an academic pursuit inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. His expertise spans critical care, resuscitation, and toxicology, with a strong focus on improving clinical outcomes in emergency settings. Dr. Olinga has also undergone specialized training in quality improvement and clinical audits, ensuring that healthcare systems remain efficient and patient-centered.
Research and Interests
Dr. Olinga’s research focuses on emergency medicine toxicology, aiming to address the increasing burden of poisoning cases due to pesticides, herbicides, and drug overdoses in Uganda. A major goal is to establish a national toxicology center to support health workers in diagnosing and managing poisoning cases more effectively.
Dr. Olinga has published research on “Characteristics of Pediatric Injuries as Predictors of 24-Hour Disposition from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital Emergency Department”, contributing valuable insights into pediatric trauma care and patient outcomes in resource-limited settings.
Other research interests include resuscitation practices, infectious disease management in emergency settings, and quality improvement in emergency care delivery.
Leadership and Professional Engagement
Dr. Olinga is actively involved in resident education and mentorship, overseeing research proposal development and scientific writing. In November 2024, He led the Ugandan national simulation cup team to victory at the Simulation African Cup held in Gaborone, Botswana. Additionally, He delivered an oral presentation at the same conference, sharing critical findings and insights in emergency medicine.
Dr. Olinga also collaborates with national and international partners in emergency medicine and toxicology. His advocacy for structured emergency care training and research in Uganda continues to impact medical education and clinical practice.

• Certified Instructor: Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Life Support, and Neonatal Life Support under the European Resuscitation Council.
• International Life Support Instructor – providing training and mentorship on emergency resuscitation across different regions.
• Academic Leadership: Oversees emergency medicine residency training and quality improvement projects at MUST.
• Toxicology Advocacy: Works toward establishing a national toxicology center in Uganda.
• Research and Publications: Engages in studies on resuscitation, pediatric trauma, and emergency medicine toxicology.
• International Representation: Led Uganda’s team to victory at the Simulation African Cup 2024 and presented at the African Conference on Emergency Medicine (AfCEM) in Botswana.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Olinga enjoys playing football, tennis, and traveling. His love for exploration extends to both professional and personal experiences, engaging in medical conferences and outdoor adventures worldwide.
