Dr. Eunice Olet Apio is an academic and research scientist at Mbarara University of Science and Technology
(MUST).
She is primarily known for her expertise in plant systematics, botany, and ethnobotany.
She holds a PhD in Botany from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, specializing in the taxonomy of the Solanum genus in Uganda. She also earned her undergraduate and masters’ degrees from Makerere University.
Dr. Olet Apio is a key figure in Ugandan botanical research, with over 30 publications focusing on:
-Identifying and classifying indigenous Ugandan plant species.
-Documenting traditional knowledge of herbal remedies for conditions such as malaria, epilepsy, and alcohol-related disorders.
-Studying the regeneration of indigenous trees and the impact of environmental changes on Ugandan crater lakes.
-Analyzing the chemical compounds in plants (like ferns and medicinal barks) to evaluate their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
